Moxley Sorrel is widely considered to have been the Confederate Armies greatest staff officer. The work is one of the finest examples of military literature from any war period.Sorrel was born in Georgia to a wealthy family. When the Southern States created the Confederacy Sorrel left his job in Savannah and joined the Confederate Army. He quickly rose through the ranks becoming General Longstreet's de facto Chief of Staff, and was later promoted to Brigadier General in 1864.
